Coaching Experience: Tom Parkinson followed in his father’s coaching footsteps, coaching at an English club for three years before joining Chicago Fire SITC in 2016. Tom coached the high school and “travel” teams at Hastings FC in Michigan before joining AYSO 300 EXTRA in Fall of 2016. Now Coach Tom has joined HDDYSC and is coaching three competitive teams and also helping with the 07 and 08 City team.
Playing Experience: Tom played for Walshaw Sports Club from U5-U16, coached by his father and assistant each year. Whilst studying his BTEC Level 3 Dimploma in Sport he joined the team at Bury College. Tom also had trials at Bolton Wanderers and Bury Football Cub during his youth years.
Coaching Philosophy: I believe at U8-U11, practices should be filled with fun, interactive activities where each child has a ball, focusing on technique. They should play equal time on the field, and rotate positions to get a full understanding of the games. As they get older, playing time should be based on performance but still at least half of the game so each child can continue to develop. I try to keep the practices fun as well as developmental and have a competitive nature because I know as they grow up they have other distractions so I try to keep them with a love for the game.
